ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Review
It’s been awhile, but I’m back from my vacation! I asked a poll on Twitter of which brand I should review first (Kylie Cosmetics or ColourPop) for the majority of the time ColourPop was in the lead, but when the poll closed it was a 50/50 tie. So I decided to go with ColourPop.
Make sure to subscribe so you’ll be the first to know when my Kylie Cosmetics review will be out AND the battle of the two brands post will be out. But for now here’s my ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Review.
I purchased three Ultra Matte Lips from ColourPop several weeks ago. Their retail price is $6.00 USD or about $7.90 CAD. I’ve heard of mix reviews about ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lips, some say they love them but others say they’re too drying and flaking. Here’s my opinion:
Nude lips are probably the most popular lip choice right now, but I always seem to only pick up browny nudes. Which are super cute but I wanted a pinky nude; something light, effortless, everyday.
After browsing the internet for swatches I added this colour to my cart and haven’t regretted it since. I love this colour. I’ve been wearing it almost everyday (you can see I’ve rubbed off the logo in the first image), it’s the perfect shade for summer and spring. I probably won’t wear it as much during fall and winter as I like to reach for darker lips then.
I typically apply this without a lip liner and it stays on surprising well! It does fade when I’m eating but when I apply a second coat it doesn’t flake off or anything. I’ll apply a light coat of lip balm before the second coat to make sure it doesn’t dry up.
I won’t lie, I haven’t actually managed to wear this outside of my house yet. It’s a subtle daring colour. I probably would’ve never picked it up in a store because of the unique shade…but it was only $8.
As you can see it’s a beautiful dusty grey. This has a very similar formula to Midi, but since I haven’t worn it out I don’t know if it fades while you’re eating food. But I’m going to make an educated guess and say yeah it will.
It does go on a little patchy (if you look closely below you can see it), but I’m going to find a matching lip liner and start using that under it to help with the patchiness.
I got this lip colour because it reminded me of fall. It’s a beautiful deep red but not as deep as my other fall colours.
This one goes on a little patchy, so I had to use a few coats. I actually like to apply this on in quarters. So I’ll do one quarter of my lip and then the next quarter etc. I found this way helps minimize the patchiness. Other than that it has the same formula to the other liquid lipsticks.
In case you’re not in the reading mood, here’s the important notes about ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lip:
- They are not as pigmented as higher end liquid lipstick
- The formula can be patchy (but if you apply in quarters or use a lip liner it should help)
- It’s not drying or sticky (you won’t even feel it on your lips) if you use a lip balm before hand.
- It’ll last the majority of the day if you don’t eat. But if you’re a human you’re going to eat so make sure you bring the lipstick with you and your lip balm.
- It doesn’t flake off.
I was impatient and didn’t wait till Tulle dried, but they dry 100% matte.
Would I recommend these? Yes (I’ve actually just placed a second order with ColourPop that has another Ultra Matte Lip in it). They are excellent for their price.
Have you tried ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lips? What’s your favourite shade?
